Interesting letter from Down Under, by Doug Jacques, 89 yrs |
|
Doug writes about himself in a letter to the NF:
A Yorky born in Barnsley in 1918, Dad was in WW1, an air force mechanic. me - a junior steward P & O 5yrs then into army June 39.Dunkirk, Tobruk, El Alemein twice and on to Monte Carlo. Saw newborn son May 1940 on returning from Dunkirk, next time I saw him he was 5 1/2 yrs old. Got Fed up with UK's constant rain decided on OZ where I had friends.
Migrated Jan 1950 and have had a
very happy life ever since but never lost my love of Britain . Was
brought up to love England and to respect the law. Per U K
relatives, friends and Brit newspapers have kept a lively interest
in things British. Was always a conservative voter despite being born
in a mining town. It was a case of voting for the best of a bad
bunch. I am bemused , amazed, astonished and astounded at the
deterioration of that once great country Britain. As an observer from
afar I feel my opinions have a ring of
impartiality. You know,
"The observer sees more of the game than the players.
The utter apathy of the British people
astounds me, how can so many fine people allow themselves to be so
deceived.? Quite a few politicians, starting with Ted Heath
deserve to end their days on the block at Tower Hill. Total and
utter traitors all. Britain has an electoral system which allows
a candidate to win a seat wit just 40 % of the vote, thus 60% did
not want him. The Australian preferential system prevents that by
giving voters a second choice. who often wins a seat by earning
more preferences than the one with most votes. I suggest you
search the web for "Australian preferential voting". It is most
interesting. I feel it is much fairer. We do not have compulsory
voting but we do have compulsory attendance at the polling booth. My
suggestions for Britain are,
Stop all immigration, full stop, no
exceptions. GET OUT OF THE DAMNED E U. There are most of your
problems.
Why should one of the oldest democratic systems - Westminster be ruled from a foreign country.? The E U.
is it now 27 countries? They all have different cultures and cannot
at anytime ever really coalesce. My learned friend a London news
editor told me that being in the E U prevented wars. well I say
the have been 27 wars since 1945. Men are like dogs and will
always fight. My opinion of all major part in Britain is not of
the highest. I think the National front has the right idea but I
would like to see you amalgamate with the National party and become
powerful. I love you all and all the things you are doing and more
power to your elbows. Good luck to you fine folk.
